When you hire a builder or remodeler, you want to hire a CERTIFIED one.

These builders and remodelers have received at least 18 hours of instruction from a expert in the field and complete at least 12 hours of continuing education every three years.

Look for builders and remodelers with the following professional designations:

  Graduate Master Builder (GMB) – highest professional designation awarded to builders. GMB courses are more advanced with in-depth instruction geared for experienced building.
  Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR) – highest professional designation awarded to remodelers. GMRs display further commitment to educational excellence and longevity in the remodeling industry.
  Certified Graduate Builder (CGB) – graduates meet prescribed standards of practice and possess a minimum of two years a proven track record of successful project management.
  Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) – remodelers who perform professional, quality work and have demonstrated their commitment to professionalism.
  Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) – have been taught the strategies and techniques for designing and building aesthetically enriching, barrier-free living environments.
  Certified Green Professional (CGP) – incorporate green-building principles into homes to provide buyers lower maintenance, better indoor air quality and better long-term value.

  Certified Graduate Associate (CGA) – associates who have gained a greater understanding of the home building business, construction process, and industry issues.
