The award is presented for longtime service to the housing industry and for efforts to maintain housing affordability in Indiana. IBA’s highest housing award is named in honor of John C. Hart Sr., who served as Chairman of the Indiana House Ways and Means Committee in the early 1970’s. Hart was known for being instrumental in restructuring Indiana’s property tax system with then Governor Doc Bowen. Hart is also the only Hoosier to serve as President of the National Association of Home Builders and one of five Hoosiers inducted into the National Housing Hall of Fame.
The John C. Hart Presidential Award is reserved to a select few who have made unselfish commitment and extraordinary contributions to the industry, the Association or to one’s community. The greatest measure of their commitment is their long-range service.
It is awarded at the discretion of the current President.
