Construction Safety Training
Workplace safety training is recommended for hazard avoidance on the job site. Visit NAHB’s Safety 365 to access educational resources and safety training materials to better understand and comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. View training opportunities available through the Indiana Department of Labor here, and request a free, on-site safety consultation or training through INSafe, which offers programs and services that educate and assist employers in safety compliance.
Training is required by federal HUD, EPA, OSHA and by most states for persons who work with lead in construction, conduct lead-based paint (LBP) projects in target housing or child-occupied facilities, inspect for LBP or assess lead hazards in target housing or child-occupied facilities.
In partnership with the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), Indiana Builders Association offers EPA Certified Renovator training at discounted rates for members. For more information or to register, visit https://business.buildindiana.org/events.
Building Codes Training
Construction of one-and two-family dwellings and townhouses must comply with the 2020 Indiana Residential Code (based on the 2018 International Residential Code with Indiana Amendments), which became effective on December 26, 2019. Indiana Builders Association hosted six training sessions across Indiana from Dec. 2019 through Feb. 2020 to educate home builders, remodelers, trade professionals, and building officials on the significant changes to the code. IBA hosted refresher training in 2024, which covered the most significant changes to the code as well published written interpretations.
The Indiana Association of Building Officials (IABO) hosts building codes training throughout the year. View their education and training opportunities at https://www.iabo.com/Education-and-Training.
