INDIANAPOLIS (June 7, 2024) The U.S. Census Bureau’s most recent report on building permits issued in April 2024 showed a continued strong upturn in the housing sector for the first four months of the year. According to the data, 2,073 single-family permits were pulled in April 2024 – a 25% increase compared to the 1,656 permits pulled in March 2024. Furthermore, the April 2024 figure represents a 32% rise from the 1,567 permits issued in April 2023.

Overall, 6,456 single-family permits have been issued in 2024 so far, reflecting a 35% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Kenny Reinbrecht, President of the Indiana Builders Association commented on the data, saying: “The ongoing increase in single-family permits in 2024 demonstrates the strong demand amidst a shortage of single-family homes on the market. This data emphasizes the urgent need to boost inventory to meet the rising demand.”
