14 Dec Remembering John B. Scheumann
John B. Scheuman, 71, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Franciscan Health St. Elizabeth East. He was born January 30, 1949 in Lafayette, IN. John was a lifelong Lafayette resident and graduate from Jefferson High School in 1967. He was awarded a full scholarship to play football at Ball State, where he graduated in 1971.
John was a loving family man and entrepreneur. After college, he took a job with National Homes where he discovered his passion for the homebuilding industry. From there, he branched out and started several homebuilding companies and never looked back.
He was an active member of the Builders Association of Greater Lafayette and Indiana Builders Association. There are numerous reminders of his contribution to the Lafayette community including the Boys and Girls Club, Columbian Park Zoo, Habitat for Humanity, and scholarship programs. The latest including donations to help build the Food Finders Center, Northend Community Center and Crosser Softball Complex.
“You can’t even put into words the impact that John has had on this community and his incredible generosity of giving his time and talent,” said Lafayette Mayor Roswarski. “He’s somebody that never forgot where he came from, never forgot his hometown, and never forgot the school he graduated from. This is a huge loss for our community.”
IBA and the entire housing industry extend our deepest sympathies to his wife June, son John B (Barney) Scheumann Jr (Stephanie), daughters—Kimmy (Chuck) Armantrout & Lindsey (Jack) Donaldson, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his siblings.
