INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 28, 2019) – Statewide totals for building permits issued in September show 1,447 single-family permits were pulled, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. September permits are down 4 percent from August of 2019, when 1,531 permits were pulled.

The 1,447 permits pulled in September of 2019 are up 13 percent from the 1,277 permits pulled in September of 2018.  The single family permit numbers for 2019 are down 3 percent compared to the first nine months of 2018.

“There are still positive conditions for single-family homebuilders in Indiana,” said Indiana Builders Association President Don Thieneman. “Looking at single-family starts in a wider, yearly scope, Hoosier homebuilders are really seeing a healthy, positive growth in permit pulls since September of 2018.”

Nationally, single-family starts increased 0.3 percent to 918,000 units. Single-family permits have increased since April, and single-family starts have posted gains since May, according to the National Association of Homebuilders. September marked the first monthly increase nationally for the number of single-family homes currently under construction since January.

The U.S. Census Bureau releases permit data monthly for the previous month’s data. October’s permit data will be released at the end of November.
