15 Mar Miller Awarded IBA’s Highest Honor in Housing
The Indiana Builders Association recently awarded the 2020 John C. Hart Presidential Award to State Representative Doug Miller of Elkhart Indiana. Miller is the managing partner with Tailor Made Homes, LLC and serves as a State Representative for Indiana House District 48.
The award is named in honor of John C. Hart, Sr. who served as Chairman of the Indiana House Ways and Means Committee in the early 1970s. Hart was known for being instrumental in restructuring Indiana’s property tax system with then Governor Doc Bowen. Hart is also the only Hoosier to serve as President of the National Association of Home Builders and one of five Hoosiers inducted into the National Housing Hall of Fame.
“The John C. Hart Presidential Award is presented to an IBA member that goes beyond the call of membership,” said IBA 2020 President Brett Harter. “I couldn’t think of a more deserving recipient than Doug for this prestigious award. Doug is always ready to answer the call for safe and affordable housing, and has focused much of his career on promoting and protecting the interests of housing in Indiana.”
Miller has worked in the housing industry for over 40 years and built over 1,300 homes in his career. He is a past state president, a senior life director of IBA, and received his local builder of the year award in 2008 and the IBA presidential award in 2017.
In 2018, Miller was recognized by his County for legislation he worked on encompassing planning and zoning.
He has worked on numerous pieces of legislation protecting Hoosier housing since he took office in 2014.
Miller is the current chairman of the House Government & Regulatory Reform Committee, a prestigious committee in the Legislature.
On behalf of the IBA staff and senior officers, congratulations to Doug on receiving this prestigious award.
