October permit numbers surge across the board

INDIANAPOLIS (December 11, 2024) The U.S. Census Bureau has released its statewide building permit report for October 2024, revealing a significant uptick in single-family housing permits across Indiana. According to the data, 2,059 permits were issued in August, a 36% increase from the 1,512 permits pulled in October 2023.

This number is also up 16% from September of 2024 when 1,782 permits were pulled. Year-to-date, Indiana saw 17,579 single-family housing permits in 2024— a 22% increase compared to the first ten months of 2024, which saw 14,452 permits.

Indiana Builders Association CEO Rick Wajda commented on the trend, “The steady rise in permit numbers is an encouraging sign for Indiana’s housing market. Increased home construction helps meet demand, eases pressure on housing costs, and moves us closer to making homeownership more attainable for Hoosier families.”
