29 Oct Indiana Builders Association responds to high of single-family permit pulls in September
INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 29, 2020) – “Indiana single-family permits are continuing to show strong gains as we head in to the fall season. With new single-family construction numbers we haven’t seen in 10 plus years and historic lows in interest rates, pursuing the American dream of owning a home remains an attractive venture for many Hoosiers. The home building industry is an important driver in the national economy, and IBA will continue to work to keep housing attainable at every price point,” said Indiana Builders Association CEO Rick Wajda.
BACKGROUND: The U.S. Census Bureau recently released statewide totals for building permits issued in September and shows 1,926 single-family permits were pulled, the highest single-month total for permits since 2007. The 1,926 permits pulled in September of 2020 are up 33% from the 1,447 permits pulled in September of 2019. This number is up 14% from August of 2020, when 1,687 permits were pulled. The single family permit numbers (13,522) for 2020 are up 11% compared to the first nine months of 2019.
