Indiana Builders Association responds to June permit numbers for Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (July 31, 2020) “Applications for home construction permits have made a very solid rebound in June. A huge increase from permit pulls in May and June of last year show us that home buyers are ready to take advantage of Indiana’s historically low interest rates. The steps Indiana builders are taking to promote home building both virtually and safely in person are paying off and showing that the home building industry is able to adapt and conform to these unforeseen challenges we have faced with COVID-19, said Indiana Builders Association CEO Rick Wajda.

###

BACKGROUND: The U.S. Census Bureau recently released statewide totals for building permits issued in June and shows 1826 single-family permits were pulled.  This number is up 42% from May of 2020, when 1284 permits were pulled.  The 1826 permits pulled in June of 2020 are up 23% from the 1490 permits pulled in June of 2019.  The single family permit numbers (8,100) for 2020 are up 5% compared to the first six months of 2019.
